Homeowners who need sewer line repair or replacement want options that don’t involve a lot of digging. Traditional sewer line repair is a dig-and-replace method that can leave yards in shambles and homeowners responsible for restoring their property. Fortunately, in most cases, there’s a better way.
At RAM Plumbing, we offer trenchless sewer repair in Tucson AZ for our clients. Keep reading to learn more about this method and when it’s the better option.
About Trenchless Pipe Repair
Trenchless technology is a game-changer. This method of pipe repair and replacement became available about 15 years ago. However, to this day, many homeowners don’t realize this is an option for their sewer job.
Trenchless pipe replacement and repair don’t require digging to fix the sewer pipe. All the work is done through one or two access points, usually by accessing an existing clean out. Sewer contractors use one of two methods to repair or replace the damaged pipe, trenchless pipe lining or trenchless pipe bursting.
Pipe relining works best to fix cracks, misaligned joints, and minor damage to the line. We insert an inflatable sleeve into the pipe that’s coated in resin. The sleeve is inflated using air or steam and held in place in this manner until the resin cures. The sleeve is then deflated and removed leaving behind a new pipe-within-a-pipe.
When the existing pipe is severely damaged, we use pipe bursting to break up the existing pipe and insert a new one in its place. This method of trenchless pipe replacement doesn’t take long and can replace pipes up to 18”.
With trenchless methods, sewer jobs get done faster. The average sewer job takes less than 48 hours, depending on the circumstances. In many situations, homeowners can still use their water.
When Is Trenchless Sewer Repair the Best Option?
Trenchless sewer replacement or repair is a good alternative to traditional dig-and-replace methods for the following circumstances:
- Pipe has broken or cracked due to aging
- Soil changes have caused the sewer pipe to break or collapse
- Root intrusion in the line
- Corrosion in cast-iron pipes
Before one of our sewer contractors recommends a sewer repair option, we must inspect the condition of the pipe. To do this, we insert a small camera into the sewer line and view real-time video feed with the homeowner. This inspection tells us if the condition of the sewer pipe and whether or not trenchless repair options are possible.
